This is what a rational debate looks like

Subject S asserts a proposition P and gives a reason R or a body of evidence E that supports P.

Interlocutor I asserts that R or E is not valid because of a reason or body of evidence R2 or E2.

(and so on until…)

A. Rn or En is given and:

  1. I accepts P, or
  2. S renounces belief in P.

B. If the debate ends before A,

I remains open to P, and

S remains open to not-P

_______________________________________

If A, then S and I accept or do not accept P as the best idea known but still remain open to P and not-P and to Rn+1 or En+1.
