One of the biggest arguments against the existence of God is the one that if there was really an all-good and all-powerful being we would not expect to see such evil as we do in the world.
Many theists have tried to solve this problem in many ways. I don’t think most of them make sense.
Some attempted solutions put forth include:
- The freewill defense
- The theory that God is trying to test us
- The appeal to the eventual defeat of evil
- The appeal to God’s mysterious ways (skeptical theism)
I shall explain in some upcoming posts why none of these ideas make sense.
Part 3:
The problem with the appeal to the eventual defeat of evil is that it merely begs the question of why it is allowed to exist to begin with.
